the retail home for all of the occasional but longterm side project(s) of Minneapolis fine artist Amy Rice.
Minneapolis artist and printmaker Amy Rice has exhibited her fine art in galleries nationally and abroad for over a decade. For the past five years art making has been her full time job. A serendipitous find in an antique store the very week she took the leap to full time artist has helped her make that workable. An antique sign press machine (a type of letterpress) and some great fonts. She bought an antique atlas that day and on the way home heard “You Can Go Your Own Way” on the radio and it was a giant lightbulb moment. The printsmade were a hit and her line of letterpress products has expanded ever since.
Rice made the decision to separate her fine art from her craftier art making and print making activities last fall when her fine art became represented by Groveland Gallery in Minneapolis.
a nice nest press is launching with a special project Amy has been working on slowly over the course of the past few years. Camp Nice Nest was a 2 day installation and look-book photoshoot for the a nice nest press.
I got a bee in my bonnet this summer to make all my handprinted fabric (originally made for a fun licensing opportunity, for my book Playing with Stencils, and as part of a grant I received from the Minnesota States Art Board) into one-of-a-kind pillows and quilts. I have wanted to do a make-over of my sweethearts old ice-fishing shack and that served as motivation to get it done. Amy Rice
